Caol Ila Marten 67
This new Marten 67 was launched and commissioned in 2009. Built at Azzura Marine’s Nowra facilities, the luxury cruising and racing boat with a high quality, innovative and contemporary interior designed by Ali Taya of Parallel Design in New York, was heralded as the beginning of a new era for the company. Described by Axxura Marine Director Iain Murray as an exciting development, the Marten 67 was shipped to Europe for delivery to her owner after undergoing sea trials in Sydney.
Alfa Romeo Maxi Yacht
The 100ft maxi yacht Alfa Romeo II which was built in the McConaghy yard in Mona Vale is the biggest of the three Alfa Romeo boats. When Sydney based New Zealand owner Neville Chrichton skippered Alfa Romeo II across the finishing line at the 2009 Sydney-to-Hobart it was an astonishing 146th consecutive line honours victory for the maxi in ocean races in Europe, America and New Zealand.
Wild Oats XI Maxi Yacht
In her 2005 debut Bob Oatley’s 100ft maxi yacht skippered by Mark Richards set a new race record for the Sydney-to-Hobart race. In 2008 Wild Oats XI won on handicap as well as becoming the first boat in the event’s history to take four successive line honours victories. The Reichel Pugh designed, state of the art Wild Oats XI which was built in the McConaghy yard in Mona VAle will be chasing a fifth victory in 2010.
ICAP Leopard Maxi Yacht
ICAP Leopard, the third custom build of owner Mike Slade and his yacht management company Ocean Marine was designed by Farr Yacht Design and built by McConaghy Boats in Sydney. Since her launch in 2007 ICAP Leopard has competed for line honours in some of the world’s greatest yacht races and has broken twelve major offshore racing records. ICAP Leopard went to New York in 2010 to prepare an assault on her own transatlantic record.
This 30 metre maxi yacht’s Ken Freivokh (UK) designed and styled interior is fully removable for racing. ICAP Leopard is berthed in the UK. When not racing she becomes a luxury charter yacht in the Mediterranean and Carribbean seas.
Ran 2 Maxi Yacht
This 72ft mini maxi yacht designed by German based naval architects Judel-Vroljik for UK based Skype inventor Niklas Zennstrom was launched in April 2009. She was immediately described as a new leader in mini maxi racing (Th Daily Sail: 18 April 2010). Skippered by Tim Powell Ran 2 became the overall winner of the biennial British Rolex Fastnet race in August and her division of the Maxi World Rolex Cup in Sardinia in September before arriving in Sydney in December 2009 to prepare for the Sydney-to-Hobart race.
Singularity Lutra 80
Cutting edge technology was used by the international team of experts in bringing to reality for Lutra Yacht Design Adria Konyendyk’s design for this fast and lightweight racing cruiser. With its new canting keel and high level fit out Singularity aims to sail fast in comfort. Built by McConaghy Boats she had her first test sail in Sydney Harbour in February 2010 ready for her sailing programme in the Mediterranean.
Shogun TP52
After being fitted with a new mast following a dismasting on her way to Sydney in March 2010, Rob Hanna’s Victorian tp52 Shogun went on to win in division one of the Yachting NSW IRC Championship and in the same division of the Port Stephens regatta. Shogun has been described as a “rocket” and will be back in Sydney in December to compete in the Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
Brindabella
Brindabella is one of Australia’s best known and best loved names in ocean racing. She still holds many race records and has been described by Ian Thomson, skipper of SOS Ocean Racing as “an icon in Australian yachting, and a beautifully designed boat that still turns heads today”.
